The SEPSIS observational study sought to identify the etiologies, management, and outcomes of community-acquired sepsis and severe sepsis in adults and children in Southeast Asia. The study was conducted by members of the Southeast Asia Infectious Disease & Clinical Research Network (SEAICRN) in Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. In Indonesia,  a total of 79 participants (65 adults, 14 children) were enrolled, between March 2015 and December 2015. All participants were hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of suspected or documented infection and had at least three sepsis diagnostic criteria. Rapid diagnostic tests, standard-of-care tests, and centralized research tests were performed using blood and other relevant specimen types collected at enrollment and, for a subset, during the 14- to 20-day convalescent period. Extensive data, including documented risk factors and antimicrobial resistance profiles, were systematically recorded throughout the 28-day study period.
